Chief Operating Officer

Location: India - Remote

Hours: Significant overlap with U.S. business hours

Type: Full time, contract

Compensation: INR 55+ LPA

About the Role

OvalBrick has been retained by a U.S.-based venture-backed startup to recruit a Chief Operating Officer (COO).

The company is building enterprise AI software that helps businesses automate complex workflows and improve decision-making. We are looking for an experienced operator who can work closely with the CEO and founders to translate strategy into execution, build a repeatable go-to-market engine, and create the operating infrastructure required to scale the company.

The COO will connect company strategy, revenue, customer success, finance, people, and operations while establishing clear metrics, accountability, and execution discipline across the organization. The successful candidate should be comfortable moving between company strategy, GTM execution, enterprise sales, customer success, financial management, organizational design, and hands-on problem solving.

The COO should bring structure where it improves execution, without adding unnecessary process. As the company grows, the role will evolve from personally solving cross-functional problems to building the leaders, systems, and operating discipline required to scale.

The candidate will be based in India and work remotely with a U.S.-based team. Significant overlap with U.S. business hours is required.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CEO on company strategy, priorities, financial planning, organizational design, and major business decisions.

  • Own and scale the company’s go-to-market operating model, aligning Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Product, and Finance around revenue and customer outcomes.

  • Build the sales and revenue operations machinery, including pipeline management, forecasting, pricing, deal reviews, conversion metrics, account planning, and sales process discipline.

  • Build the customer success operating model from implementation through adoption, value realization, renewal, expansion, and executive relationship management.

  • Establish clear ownership and metrics across the full customer lifecycle.

  • Partner directly with the CEO on major enterprise opportunities, strategic accounts, partnerships, and complex or high-value deals.

  • Identify bottlenecks in customer acquisition, sales execution, onboarding, adoption, retention, or expansion and drive corrective action.

  • Build the company operating system, including goals, KPIs, operating reviews, forecasting, planning cycles, decision processes, and accountability across functions.

  • Create strong financial and operating visibility across ARR, bookings, pipeline, gross margin, retention, burn, runway, headcount, and other key SaaS metrics.

  • Lead budgeting, resource allocation, operating planning, and performance management in partnership with the CEO and finance resources.

  • Develop scalable processes across hiring, people operations, vendors, contracting, compliance, and other core business functions.

  • Recruit and develop leaders as the company grows, with clear roles, decision rights, and performance expectations.

  • Support fundraising, investor reporting, board preparation, due diligence, and strategic transactions as required.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of business, operational, or commercial leadership experience, including significant responsibility in a high-growth technology company.

  • Experience as a COO, GM, SVP Operations, or comparable executive role with broad cross-functional responsibility.

  • Demonstrated experience scaling an enterprise B2B SaaS or technology business, preferably through an early or high-growth stage.

  • Strong understanding of SaaS economics, including ARR, bookings, pipeline, gross margin, retention, expansion, CAC, burn, and runway.

  • Demonstrated experience building or scaling B2B SaaS sales and customer success operations, including enterprise pipeline management, forecasting, implementation, retention, and expansion.

  • Experience working across Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, Finance, Product, and Operations rather than within a single functional silo.

  • Strong commercial judgment and experience supporting enterprise sales, negotiations, partnerships, or strategic customer relationships.

  • Strong financial judgment, including budgeting, resource allocation, scenario planning, and evaluation of business trade-offs.

  • Experience building operating plans, KPIs, management reporting, and cross-functional operating cadences.

  • Ability to translate strategy into execution, establish ownership, solve cross-functional problems, and drive initiatives through completion.

  • Experience building teams and organizational structures in environments where roles and processes are still evolving.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with executives, employees, enterprise customers, investors, and board members.

  • Understanding of AI products and enterprise AI adoption to participate credibly in product, customer, and strategic discussions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Operating experience in an AI, SaaS, enterprise software, data, or automation company.

  • Building or restructuring a B2B go-to-market organization spanning sales, marketing, revenue operations, and customer success.

  • Experience with large enterprise customers, including pilots, procurement, security reviews, contracting, implementation, and multi-year agreements.

  • Experience building customer implementation and success processes for technical enterprise products.

  • Experience with strategic partnerships, channel development, or enterprise business development.

  • Experience with fundraising, investor relations, board reporting, or M&A.

  • Experience managing globally distributed teams or operations across the U.S. and India.
